So I've decided to try herbal supplements to control my PCOS symptoms. For those who aren't familiar with it, PCOS is an endocrine disorder that causes delightful things like increased androgens, hirsutism, weight gain, wonky cycles and male pattern baldness (among other things). I'm going to start a regime consisting of Vitex & Saw Palmetto (v sexy as it's used to help men with prostate problems) and upping soy products for plant oestrogen. Now, my problem is that I love carbs but women with PCOS usually find the most success in controlling weight gain through a low carb diet. I hate it with a passion, but being insulin resistant it does help control blood sugar levels. I'm also an aspiring vegetarian - which makes it all the more difficult as fruits and vegs are typically high in carbohydrates. Besides tofu and legumes, what are other plant based stuff that are high in protein? I've already noted down quinoa, I just have to be able to convince the SO that it's delicious.

Metabolic conditions are really tricky and it seems to be all about getting the right balance of food, lifestyle and supplements to manage it. The protein issue is also a hard one, for all vegetarians.
Eggs are a fantastic source of protein, are you still considering eating those?
